How to Make a Google Maps & Waze Link

In Google Maps, find your place, tap Share and copy the link. For Waze, copy the link from the Waze app, or build one from your coordinates: waze.com/ul?ll= followed by the latitude and longitude. Plenty of Malaysians use Waze and plenty use Google Maps, so give both, as two buttons on one page.

How to get a Google Maps link

  1. Find your place

Open the Google Maps app and search for your business. If it isn’t on the map yet, long-press the exact spot to drop a pin.

  2. Tap Share

Tap the place name or the pin at the bottom of the screen, then tap Share (on Android it may say Share place).

  3. Copy the link

Choose Copy link. Google Maps links usually start with maps.app.goo.gl or share.google. On a computer, find the place on google.com/maps and click Share for the same link.

Note menu names change between app versions and languages. If your business isn’t on Google Maps yet, set up a Google Business Profile for free. Until then, a pin you drop yourself can be shared too.

How to make a Waze link

There are two ways. The quickest: in the Waze app, find your place, tap it, and share the location. Waze gives you a link to copy.

The second way is more precise, because it points to the same spot every time: build the link yourself from your place’s coordinates.

https://waze.com/ul?ll=3.1390,101.6869&navigate=yes

The navigate=yes part makes Waze start driving there straight away. On a phone with Waze, the link opens the app. Without Waze, it opens the Waze map in the browser.

How to find your place’s coordinates

  1. On a phone, open Google Maps and long-press your place. The coordinates appear in the search box at the top.
  2. On a computer, right-click the place on google.com/maps. The coordinates are the first line of the menu; click to copy them.

3.1390, 101.6869

The first number is the latitude and the second the longitude. In Malaysia, the latitude is always between 1 and 8, and the longitude between 99 and 120. If yours are the other way round, the link goes somewhere else in the world.

With the same coordinates, you can also make a Google Maps link that opens directions straight away:

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&destination=3.1390,101.6869

Put Google Maps and Waze on your page as buttons

Customers shouldn’t have to copy an address or ask where you are. Put two buttons on your Singgah page and let them pick the app they use:

  1. Open singgah.page/try; no sign-up needed to start. Tap Add block and pick Link.
  2. Fill in the Button label, such as “Directions (Google Maps)”, paste your Google Maps link into Link (URL), and pick the 📍 emoji.
  3. Add another Link block for Waze, such as “Waze to the shop”, and type the 🚗 emoji into the Emoji field.
  4. More than one branch? Use a Heading block for each, with its own directions buttons and WhatsApp button underneath.

A real example: singgah.page/mamahomestay. This homestay’s page has a directions button right under its WhatsApp booking button.

Where to share your location link

  • Your link-in-bio page, so followers on your Instagram and TikTok bio find it with your menu and WhatsApp.
  • WhatsApp messages, such as quick replies or booking confirmations: “Here’s where we are.”
  • Posters and the counter, as a QR code to your page.
  • Event invitations, like a kenduri or an opening. A “Waze to the hall” button saves a lot of calls from lost guests.

Why does my location link go to the wrong place?

  • The coordinates are swapped. Latitude comes first. In Malaysia, the first number is between 1 and 8.
  • A name search found another place. Links that search by name (like waze.com/ul?q=) can pick another branch or a shop with the same name. Use coordinates for the exact spot.
  • The pin is on the road, not the entrance. Drop the pin right at the entrance or car park, especially for homestays and halls in housing areas.
  • You shared your current location, not the place. “Share live location” in WhatsApp or Google Maps shows where you are right now, not your shop, and usually ends after a set time. For a shop, share the place itself.

Questions

Do Google Maps or Waze links cost anything?

No. Google Maps share links and Waze links are free, with nothing to sign up for.

Which is better, Google Maps or Waze?

Give both. Many drivers in Malaysia use Waze, while others are used to Google Maps. Two buttons side by side let everyone use the app they like.

Will my Google Maps link stop working?

Google no longer makes new goo.gl links, but existing ones, including links shared from the Google Maps app, keep working. Newer share links may also start with share.google.

Can a link start navigation straight away?

Yes. For Waze, add &navigate=yes to a link with coordinates. For Google Maps, a directions link (google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&destination= followed by your coordinates) opens directions straight away; add &dir_action=navigate to start navigation too.

I have several branches. What should I do?

Make one Google Maps link and one Waze link for each branch, then arrange them on your page with a heading for each branch.
